The Position:
Summary:
The Community Affairs Intern will assist in classroom presentations, community events, and district tours; assist in the coordination of annual educational events such as the Splash Into Spring, Student Art Program, and the Storm Games booth; Draft social media posts and content; Assist in community outreach for local programs and represent the District at selected local functions and water and/or organizational functions, including those occurring outside normal working hours; Produce, shoot and edit videos; and Take photos of district assets and personnel. Compensation is $20.00 per hour.
Responsibilities:
- Support calendars, agendas, weekly updates and monthly accomplishment summaries.
- Maintain inventory and assist with bill inserts and newsletter preparation.
- Assist with community events, school programs and District tours.
- Produce simple Canva designs and support email and form creation.
- Support social media drafting, event photography, video assistance and vendor coordination.
- Manage assigned outreach tasks and provide general administrative support.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Currently pursuing or recent completion of Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in communication, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
- Knowledge of concepts, practices, procedures, methods, and techniques used in public relations, media relations and community outreach.
- Excellent customer service skills, along with effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of the basic operations, services, and activities of a public information and community out-reach program. Familiarity with Canva or Adobe Suite is a plus.
- Knowledge of office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
- Must possess a valid California Driver’s License.
Compensation:
- CalPERS Retirement is provided using the 2% at age 62 formula for “New/PEPRA” Members.
- Flexible Work Schedule (Max 30 Hours per Week)
- Stipend $20 per hour
