This recruitment aims to fill a Special Duty Assignment position for up to three (3) years in duration.

If so, the role of Senior Operator in Charge (SOIC) in East Offsite Operations is the position for you. As an SOIC on East Offsite you will play a critical part in WTD’s efforts in protecting the water quality and public health in the central Puget Sound region. As a Senior Operator in Charge, you will work closely with the offsite operations supervisor in the planning, scheduling, and operating of critical infrastructure that will produce high quality treatment to wastewater collected and conveyed from local sewer agencies. In this role you will gain valuable leadership skills leading a crew and will gain knowledge and exposure to the design and construction processes used for capital projects within the division. The skills and knowledge you gain from this position will help prepare you for future opportunities within WTD.

About the Role:
As a Senior Operator in Charge, you will help carry out and facilitate the day-to-day operational tasks on East Offsite. The candidate will operate, monitor, and control wastewater treatment equipment using manual operations or complex computerized systems. The individual will be expected to troubleshoot all wastewater equipment, systems, and processes with limited supervision. An ability to provide clear and effective communications with the public, fellow team members, other treatment plant staff, and other King County work groups SOIC key responsibilities include planning, scheduling, coordinating, directing, monitoring and reviewing a crew’s daily work, assigned treatment process and/or capital projects. Incumbents lead, train and provide technical expertise to operate, monitor and maintain wastewater treatment and odor control equipment, and/or collection and conveyance systems and processes. As a SOIC you will assume full operational responsibilities when the supervisor is unavailable. Project Coordinator SOICs will be working on all projects associated with East Offsite. The candidate will be the lead in the field operations liaison on all projects. They will be working closely with the East Offsite Capital Projects Liaison Supervisor to help deliver updates to offsite operations on project status. The candidate will also help review, comment and engage on project materials and meetings. The East Offsite Project Coordinator SOIC will use their offsite experience to help deliver projects with continuous operations support.

The East Offsite operations team is a highly collaborative team that prides itself on communications, dedicated staff, and solution-minded work. The O&M facilities are currently undergoing major capital improvements expected to continue over the next 10 years. The candidate will be a part of a flexible and dynamic team responsible for providing expertise and support to maintain continuous effective wastewater operations.
