THE POSITION

This is a block budgeted Technology Specialist I/II Technology Specialist I/II position. The chosen candidate would be hired as either an Technology Specialist I or II, based on qualifications.

Geographic Information Systems Specialist, or GIS Specialist, develops and maintains both the Assessor’s parcel maps and GIS layers that display parcel boundaries, blocks, lots, and easements. Also verify legal descriptions on incoming deeds, help customers with questions regarding the boundaries of their parcel, and research issues that arise due to incorrect or poor legal descriptions. This position is a critical component in completion of the Assessor’s mandated functions.

GIS Specialist I
The GIS Specialist I (Technology Specialist I) is an entry-level position in the GIS Specialist series. Under general direction, the GIS Specialist’s assignments are subject to review and evaluation while in progress and upon completion.

GIS Specialist II
The GIS Specialist II (Technology Specialist II) differs from an GIS Specialist I in that the incumbents at the II level are sufficiently trained to independently perform assignments with a minimum of supervision and also may assist in training lower-level technicians and specialist. Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Technical Services bargaining unit for labor relations purposes. Individuals who are in a full-time classification position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months, for a total of eighteen months.

PATTERN II If solely assigned to GIS, one (1) year of experience working with basic GIS functionality.
