City Relations ManagerDepartment: Office of the City ManagerPay Grade: 111FLSA Status: Non-ExemptPersonnel Status: Regular Full-Time JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible formanaging the City's efforts to provide excellent and transparent information to the public through contact with stakeholder groups representing neighborhoods and communities. This position reports to the Director of Communications.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Serves as a resource for neighborhoods and related community groups to keep those groups informed about relevant issues including city projects, plans, events, and initiatives.
- Coordinates a Citizens’ Academy Program and other relevant programming to support and inform neighborhoods and residents of Auburn.
- Serves as a liaison between neighborhoods and City departments, investigating complaints and working with departments to address issues regarding City services, code enforcement, or neighborhood requests.
- Assists with communications needs related to marketing and outreach for the City’s website, social media, and publications.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or equivalent; one (1) to three (3) years’ experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications: - Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of City and departmental rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of public outreach and community involvement techniques.
- Knowledge of AP writing style.
- knowledge of public affairs principles and practices.
- Knowledge of Alabama public records laws.
- Knowledge of public sector communications and related principles and practices.
- Knowledge of publication design and production principles.
- Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.
- Skill in research and analysis.
- Skill in the preparation and presentation of accurate and reliable reports.
- Skill in using computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
- Skill in the use of small office equipment, including calculators, copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
- Ability to get along with others and work effectively with the public and co-workers.
- Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.
- Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work is light work, which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and distinguishing between shades of color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed in an office environment and various outdoor environments, occasionally in cold, hot, or inclement weather.
