DescriptionSPECIAL EVENTS STAFF(Recreation Assistant - Job Code 9325)Hours: Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).
THE POSITION The City of Sunnyvale is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested working special events operated by the Library and Recreation Services Department. In this role, individuals will help set up and take down events and work the events while giving great customer service to the public. The work schedule is based on the events that are coming up, with 5 to 20 hours available for each event.
Essential Job FunctionsMay include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Follow event plan and execute assigned duties effectively and efficiently
- Responsible for set up and tear down of overall event
- Monitor or manage interactive event areas such as arts & crafts station, games, sports and activities
- Oversee event participants ensuring that proper safety measures are being followed
- Assist Event Coordinator with day of duties and support where needed
- Collect equipment after the event and properly store away the items
- Attend assigned special events throughout the city to observe and document event operations on a post-event survey
- Perform related work as required
WORKING CONDITIONS Position requires regular sitting, standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work-related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push, pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds is also required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodation.
Minimum Qualifications- The minimum age is 16
- Availability to work evenings and weekends
License/Certificates: Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license and a safe driving record or the ability to supply alternative transportation as approved by the hiring authority.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS- Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin or Farsi
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision or in a team with other staff
- Be able to work evenings and weekends is mandatory
- Experience working directly with the public in a recreation, hospitality or education setting
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook)
