Description
The JobSan Bernardino County - Department of Public Works is recruiting for a
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician III who will serve as a technical expert for the GIS team, utilizing the Esri GIS platform to create and maintain a wide variety of maps, data, and geospatial information products. The incumbent will act as a project lead, monitoring project progress, deadlines, and quality assurance; resolving operational problems; and providing technical direction to GIS Technicians I and GIS Technician IIs.
A vacancy currently exists in the Department of Public Works (DPW). The resulting eligible list may be used to fill other county department vacancies as they occur.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check and a job-related physical exam, including a drug test, prior to employment.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. A valid California Class C driver's license and automobile insurance must be produced at the time of hire and maintained.
Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements Applicants must qualify under ONE (1) of the following options: OPTION 1: Three (3) years of experience compiling and preparing a broad spectrum of geospatial data and data visualization products, which includes at least two (2) years of professional experience utilizing Esri’s desktop (ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro) products and ArcGIS Online. Experience may be concurrent.
OPTION 2: A
Bachelor's degree from an accredited program with at least thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of college coursework in geographic information systems, GIScience, geography, cartography, drafting, surveying, or information technology.
OPTION 3: A
Bachelor's degree from an accredited program and completion of a GIS certificate program from an accredited institution **
- AND- two (2) years of professional experience utilizing Esri desktop products and ArcGIS Online.
Courses and/or certificate(s)
MUST be listed in the Supplemental Questionnaire of the application for consideration.
**i.e. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology with 30 sem. units of GIS coursework OR Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and GIS certificate from accredited program.
Desired QualificationsYou might be a great fit for this position if you have:- Strong professional experience utilizing Esri’s GIS platform, especially desktop applications such as ArcMap and/or ArcGIS Pro and proficiency with ArcGIS Online.
- Successful history of leading a group of technicians and seeing projects through to completion.
- Professional experience working for a public agency or supporting GIS projects for public agencies.
