Definition

The City of Newport Beach seeks a motivated individual to join the Public Works Department as a Public Works Inspector II.

Currently there is one full-time vacancy in the Public Works Department. This position will inspect workmanship and materials used in a variety of Capital Improvement Projects, ensure conformance with plans, specifications and department regulations; coordinate with contractors, other City Departments, and local agencies; work with engineers and contractors to solve problems, inspect traffic control according to the WATCH manual and approved traffic control plans, maintain records and prepare reports pertaining to projects.

The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The Retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 8% or half the normal cost, whichever is higher, towards the retirement benefit.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible experience performing a variety of construction inspection work.

Education : Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in mathematics, civil engineering, or a related field.

License/Certificate : Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
