Position DescriptionThis a responsible professional position with limited administrative and supervisory duties at the unit level. Specific duties include testing, psychological evaluation and diagnostic services as well as counseling assigned patient caseload. This position functions under the supervision of a higher level licensed clinician, but the individual has full professional responsibility for higher actions and advice.
Major/Essential FunctionsPerforms a variety of clinical responsibilities to support the assessment, treatment, and continuity of care for patients in an inpatient behavioral health setting including the following:
- Participates in inpatient psychiatric hearings, serving as the non-treating Mental Health Clinician during NECM hearings and/or as the patient advocate during involuntary admission hearings, as assigned.
- Serves as an active member of the interdisciplinary treatment team by participating in treatment planning, case reviews, and collaborative decision-making for assigned patient units or those supervised.
- Completes psychosocial assessments, conducts and documents self-injurious behavior reports, new-to-unit (pod) status checks, discharge status checks, and patient status checks for individuals in seclusion in accordance with organizational policies, clinical protocols, and regulatory requirements. Coordinates and provides case management services to support patient treatment, continuity of care, and successful discharge planning.
- Responds promptly to Service Coordination Requests (SCRs) and manages treatment team referrals, including referrals to specialized programs, in accordance with organizational policies and established timeframes.
- Identifies the need for Outside Provider Information (OPI) requests and completes all required notifications and documentation in compliance with organizational policy and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assists patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members by responding to inquiries, facilitating communication, and supporting release planning activities.
- Complete all case management activities, documentation, and follow-up tasks accurately, timely, and in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Establishes and maintains a positive therapeutic approach that fosters trust, engagement, and patient participation in treatment.
- Maintains professional and ethical therapeutic boundaries in accordance with organizational policies, professional standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Completes accurate, timely, and professional clinical documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in accordance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
- Uses objective observations, clinically appropriate language, and clear documentation practices to support assessments, treatment planning, and continuity of care while avoiding subjective statements and non-clinical jargon.
- Maintains complete and compliant documentation for group therapy sessions, progress notes (including SOAP notes), treatment plans, referrals, interdepartmental communications (I-60s), and civil commitment hearings, ensuring all records meet established documentation standards and required timelines.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor, Director, Senior Director, Behavioral Health leadership, or other authorized members of management.
- Adheres to all established institutional policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and operational guidelines while maintaining compliance with applicable standards and expectations.

Required QualificationsMaster's degree in psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university.
