Utility Technician II - Maintenance of Water Meters
Description
Overview The O.N. Stevens Treatment Plant is maintained by a team of Utility Technicians. Utility Tech IIs performs routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance actions as well as complete internal plant projects to ensure the facility continues to operate and provide an uninterrupted water supply to the distribution system and meets state and federal regulations. This includes operation and maintenance of satellite locations (pump stations, elevated storage tanks, the well fields).
Responsibilities • Identify maintenance needs for plant and satellite facility assets through routine inspections and operational assessments
• Create, update, and complete preventive, corrective, and routine maintenance work orders in the City's Computerized Maintenance Management System (Maximo)
• Accurately document labor hours, materials used, and maintenance activities to maintain complete asset and work order records
• Operate and perform basic maintenance on a variety of equipment, including forklifts, backhoes, overhead cranes, mobile cranes, generators, water pumps, chemical feed pumps, actuators, and valves
• Conduct routine sampling and verification of water quality monitoring equipment using specialized laboratory instruments, including the Hach SL1000, Hach DR900, pH probes, and other field-testing devices
• Verify instrument performance and assist with calibration activities to ensure accurate process monitoring and regulatory compliance
• Assist in compiling material lists and estimating supply needs for plant maintenance and improvement projects
• Coordinate with plant staff to obtain materials, equipment, and supplies necessary to support maintenance and operational projects
• Support internal facility improvement projects by assisting with project preparation, material staging, and completion of assigned maintenance tasks
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full-Time - 40-hour work week
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications • High School Diploma/GED
• One (1) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring.
Required within six (6) months of hire • TCEQ Class D Water License

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
