Description

The Position

This recruitment is for temporary, non-benefited, extra-help work ONLY . Do not apply if you are not willing to accept temporary, extra-help work. Departments may hire extra-help employees for a limited period. Extra-help is temporary employment generally not to exceed six (6) months unless seasonal, intermittent, or on-call. Extra-help employment may last up to one (1) year when hired to work on a specific project. Extra-help employees are paid only for the hours worked and are not entitled to benefits, property rights (seniority), or promotional preference. As an extra-help employee, there is no guarantee of regularly scheduled hours or continued employment. Interested applicants and current extra-help employees interested in permanent positions with the County must apply for those positions during open recruitment. The current vacancy is in Ukiah.

Under general supervision performs technical work associated with studies, investigations, and analysis related to the implementation of a variety of air pollution control programs which include: develops and prepares various reports by researching and gathering information and/or statistics; conducts on-site inspections of manufacturing, industrial, commercial and agricultural stationary and portable source operations; assesses compliance with district rules; writes citations; responds to citizen complaints to protect the air quality standards; enforces District, State and Federal regulations. May perform related work as assigned.

Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education and Experience:

Completion of an Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in life or physical science with major coursework in chemistry, biology, engineering, environmental science, industrial technology or closely related field, or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:
Basic Inspectors Academy (within 12 months of hire)
ARB Fundamentals of Enforcement Certification (within 12 months of hire)
California driver's license and meet insurability requirements of the Air Quality District.

SALARY
Compensation is based on a five-step salary range, with annual merit-based increases within the salary range.

RETIREMENT

HOLIDAYS AND PERSONAL LEAVE
Mendocino County observes 11 paid holidays per year. Employees are granted 24 - 48 hours of personal leave annually, depending upon Bargaining Unit.

VACATION
Accrues at the rate of two weeks per year for three years. Three weeks per year after three years, four weeks after eight years and five weeks after 15 years.

SICK LEAVE
Paid sick leave accrues at the rate of 1.25 days per month, or 15 days per year. Accruals are pro-rated for part-time employees working at least 20 hours per week. Part-time employees working less than 20 hours per week, and extra-help employees receive up to 24 hours (or 3 days) of paid sick leave annually.

MEDICAL, DENTAL, VISION, AND LIFE INSURANCE
The County and the employee share the cost of an employee selected health care plan; enrollment in the plan includes $20,000 Life Insurance.
