Position DescriptionPerforms work to assist in the organization and implementation of projects and programs. Responsibilities include activities which require knowledge of departmental procedures. Employee performance is based upon a review of completed work and overall results obtained.
Major/Essential Functions- Generate ideas and topics with Media Relations team for news media pitches. Includes researching topics, following news sources, working with experts to gather information. Produce news media assets including multimedia releases, B-roll, coordinating photos and other items to pitch to news media.
- Pitch releases and pitches to the news media once a media plan is in place.
- Follows AP (Associated Press) writing style and edits media assets to disseminate news pitches to raise the visibility of the university. Simplify academic and science terminology for general audiences.
- Assist in creating and updating media list for individual news pitches through media database service.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure all necessary earned media assets such as SM, Daily Dose, Pulse and others.
- Evaluate and assist Media Relations team with media tracking, reporting when needed.
- Foster productive relationships with internal stakeholders and maintain clear communication.
- Interview experts including faculty, staff and students for news coverage. Prepare and research background and questions.
Required QualificationsHigh school graduation or equivalent. No experience required.
