Description
The Job San Bernardino County is recruiting for
Maintenance Supervisors who oversee skilled personnel responsible for the ongoing maintenance, preventive maintenance, repair, and operation of County facilities. Incumbents plan, assign, coordinate, and review the work of maintenance staff, contractors, and vendors to ensure County buildings and infrastructure are maintained in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner. Responsibilities include inspecting facilities to identify maintenance needs, reviewing and prioritizing work orders and service requests, coordinating maintenance and repair activities with contractors, vendors, and County departments, and ensuring accurate recordkeeping through computerized maintenance management systems. Incumbents may also interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications to support repairs, renovations, and facility modifications.
Depending on department assignment, Maintenance Supervisors may oversee grounds maintenance operations, including landscape maintenance, irrigation systems, tree care, and contracted grounds services to ensure County properties remain safe, functional, and well maintained. Assignments may also include coordinating fire and life safety compliance activities, such as assisting with inspections, maintaining compliance documentation, tracking corrective actions, and working with contractors and regulatory agencies to support compliance with applicable codes and standards.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Process: Incumbents must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, work history verification, as well as a job-related physical exam and drug screening.
Physical: May require occasional lifting of 50-pound objects and squatting, kneeling, stooping and climbing ladders.
Availability: Night or weekend work may be required.
Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C drivers license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation.
Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future. Candidates must be able to present their legal right to work in the United States.
*Positions in the Sheriff's Department work with and around inmates, and the Probation Department positions work at locked detention facilities . Positions within these departments require an extensive background investigation, which may include a polygraph. In addition, applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.
Minimum Requirements EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience working as or responsible for the work of skilled personnel (e.g., foreman, lead electricians, lead plumbers, etc.) involved in all phases of on-going building maintenance and upkeep of multiple large commercial, industrial, or institutional buildings.
Qualifying experience must include all of the following responsibilities:
- Coordinating work orders and vendors
- Updating work order logs
- Updating computer integrated work management systems
Desired QualificationsThe
ideal candidate for the
Project & Facilities Management Department will possess a combination of technical maintenance knowledge, leadership ability, and experience supervising maintenance operations in a commercial, industrial, institutional, or government environment.
Highly desirable qualifications include experience in one or more of the following:
- Planning, assigning, coordinating, and reviewing maintenance work performed by staff, contractors, and vendors.
- Reviewing, prioritizing, and coordinating maintenance work orders and service requests.
- Inspecting facilities to identify maintenance needs and ensure repairs are completed in accordance with established standards.
- Coordinating with contractors, vendors, County departments, and other stakeholders to support maintenance and repair activities.
- Supervising grounds maintenance operations, including landscape maintenance, irrigation systems, tree care, and contracted grounds services.
- Coordinating fire and life safety compliance activities, including inspections, testing, documentation, corrective actions, and coordination with regulatory agencies.
- Planning, assigning, coordinating, and evaluating the work of maintenance personnel, contractors, and vendors while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards.
- Building collaborative working relationships with County departments, contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
- Demonstrating strong organizational, customer service, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced maintenance environment.
