City of Olathe | $28.56 - $39.84 per hour, depending on qualifications

The City of Olathe is seeking a skilled, safety-focused leader to serve as a Stormwater Team Supervisor.

A Stormwater Maintenance Supervisor leads field crews responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and improving stormwater infrastructure-such as inlets, pipes, culverts, ditches, channels, detention/retention facilities, and green stormwater assets.

Under general direction, supervises and coordinates stormwater system maintenance operations to protect public safety, reduce localized flooding, support regulatory compliance, and preserve public infrastructure. Plans work, assigns staff and equipment, oversees contractor activities, responds to drainage-related service requests and emergencies, and maintains operational records.

Additional Information

This position requires regular work outdoors in varying weather conditions and may involve exposure to traffic, construction activity, uneven terrain, loud equipment, and other field hazards. The Stormwater Team Supervisor must be available to participate in after-hours on-call rotations and emergency response activities, including snow and ice operations. Required training and time to complete required training will be provided by the City.

Under the direction of the Stormwater Superintendent, a Stormwater Maintenance Supervisor is assigned to lead either a maintenance team or sweeper operator team. The Stormwater Field Supervisor leads a stormwater team in the field. Supervising field work includes assigning, reviewing and overseeing the activities and operations which includes storm drains, inlet structures, erosion control structures, water conveyance systems including underground piping, open channels (natural & improved), green infrastructure, detention and retention ponds, system inspection and verification. Supervising Sweeper Operators includes leading the team and oversight of Residential, Arterial, Bike Lane, Parking Lot Sweeping, and requests of the Sweeper Operators. All Stormwater Team Supervisors are expected to provide assistance to either the maintenance or sweeper operator teams as needed.


Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years' experience leading construction and/or infrastructure maintenance and/or sweeper operations experience required. Technical expertise in maintenance practices, equipment operation and construction materials required. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree preferred.

Licenses and Certificates: Valid Driver's License with a favorable driving record required. Class A Non-restricted Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement within six (6) months of employment required. Work Zone Safety Certification, flagging, confined space, shoring, erosion control, and snow plow training required within one (1) year of employment.
