POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION

The Traffic Signal Technician position is responsible for performing skilled and technical work in the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signal and street lighting systems. This employee performs traffic signal preventive maintenance activities, supports traffic engineering staff with technical assistance and assists with fiber optic communication systems. This position requires a variety of specialized tasks including, but not limited to setting up and programming NEMA traffic signal controllers, time clocks, video and microwave detector systems, emergency vehicle detectors, setting signal heads, span wire, pedestal poles and other traffic signal equipment. This employee reports direction to the Transportation Systems Supervisor.

It is a mandatory requirement of this position to work overtime, take weekend duty and be on call for emergency work such traffic signal emergencies. Must be able to respond within 45 minutes when on-call. This is a safety sensitive position.

The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster has a Multilingual Stipend Program to encourage, and reward benefited employees who are conversationally fluent in languages other than English. Benefited employees have the opportunity to test their language proficiency skills and qualify for a bi-weekly stipend that will vary based on the employee’s level of proficiency and usage.

This position is physical in nature and requires sufficient physical strength and stamina for:
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires extensive fieldwork and site visits driving a City vehicle, is subject to all extremes of weather conditions, high noise levels from construction equipment, fumes, and odors from soil amendments and chemical exposure from fertilizers, and includes field inspection work in developed facilities, construction sites, undeveloped terrain, and open space areas. Sufficient mobility and physical stamina to walk over disturbed terrain. Walking approximately 40% of the workday and includes bending and kneeling with minimal lifting of up to 30 pounds occasionally. Ability to utilize an aerial lift bucket to access equipment and wiring at heights up to 40 feet. Ability to hear heavy equipment. Ability to differentiate colors.
Required Materials and Equipment
City vehicles to perform field work to include pickup and bucket truck, traffic counters, hand-held radar speed gun, multimeter, electronic testing equipment, large plan copier, personal computers, keyboards, telephones, and other standard office equipment.

The City of Westminster does not participate in the Social Security system. In lieu of Social Security contributions, the city contributes to a 401(a) defined contribution plan on your behalf.

401(a) Contribution Rates:
Employee Mandatory Contribution: 11.5% of your base pay. Contributions are pre-tax and fully vested.
Employer Contribution: 12% of your base pay.
