Human Resources Technician

Salary range: $87,964.94 - $106,752.99 annually

What you’ll do:

This is a entry-level HR Technician position that will perform a variety of responsible technical and office administrative human resources support functions. Areas of assistance may include recruitment, testing, benefits, worker's compensation, training, and special department programs, as well as general office clerical tasks. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Human Resources Department provides a full array of employment services in support of the needs of the City and the community at large. The Department is responsible for recruitment and retention, classification and compensation systems, workers’ compensation and employee safety, labor and employee relations, employment policies and procedures, benefits administration for active and retired employees, employee development and training, employee engagement initiatives, employee recognition activities, and maintaining positive working relationships with labor groups, staff (active and retired), and the public. The Human Resources Department also ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws and administers programs within the City’s Memoranda of Understanding, the Personnel Rules and Regulations, and Administrative Procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of office support experience, which has included explaining procedures and regulations, preferably in a public agency setting. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree or technical training in human resources, paralegal, management, organizational psychology, public administration, or a closely related field. Education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Licenses:

Possession of a valid class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

SELECTION PROCESS

All applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job-related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications and supplemental questionnaires received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process.

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner.

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a department interview. Depending upon the number of candidates, this process may be altered. The Human Resources Director will make the final appointment.

Note: Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee that a candidate will be invited to participate in the selection process. The City of Burlingame reserves the right, at its discretion, to limit the number of qualified candidates invited to the selection process.
