The County of Nevada, Community Development Agency is offering an internship opportunity in partnership with the Nevada Joint Union High School District. Students enrolled in the CTE program are welcome to apply!

This position will be hosted in the Nevada County Economic Development Office and will report directly to the Economic Development Program Manager.

Functions of Agency/Department:

The Nevada County Economic Development Office works to strengthen and diversify the local economy by supporting business development, workforce initiatives, entrepreneurship, tourism, film production, and strategic investment throughout the county. Serving as a front door for businesses, the Office helps entrepreneurs and established businesses navigate County processes, access technical assistance and financing resources, connect with workforce and education partners, and identify opportunities for growth. It also works closely with County departments, chambers of commerce, business-support organizations, educational institutions, and regional and state partners to implement the County’s Economic Development Action Plan and advance long-term economic resilience.

The Office leads the County’s tourism and destination-marketing efforts through GoNevadaCounty.com, which promotes Nevada County’s communities, attractions, arts and culture, outdoor recreation, events, and local businesses to visitors. It also administers the County’s film program by promoting Nevada County as a filming destination, responding to production inquiries, assisting filmmakers with locations and local resources, and coordinating the County’s film permitting process. Together, these activities support local businesses, attract visitor spending and film-related economic activity, and showcase Nevada County as a place to visit, invest, work, and create.

Intern Duties and Responsibilities:

The high school intern will support the Nevada County Economic Development Office’s tourism, business development, communications, and community outreach activities. The intern will assist staff with a variety of projects while gaining practical experience in a professional office environment.

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Candidates selected for the position will be asked to perform a range of duties from very basic activities to those requiring higher skill levels to enhance interns' familiarity and skillset within Economic Development.

Interns must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with County staff and external partners to gather information and verify its accuracy. The ideal candidate will be able to understand assignments, ask questions when clarification is needed, and work independently to complete tasks once direction is provided.

Educational Requirements, Skills, Training, or Qualifications:

This internship is open to students from a variety of academic and career interest areas. It may be particularly relevant to students participating in digital media, journalism, business, or related Career Technical Education pathways through the Nevada Joint Union High School District. Experience with social media, website content, or web development is a plus but is not required. Interns should present themselves professionally and be detail-oriented, dependable, and able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Nevada County operates in a Microsoft Windows enterprise environment.

Time Commitment:

Ideally, the intern will work approximately two hours per day, three to four days per week. The internship schedule and overall duration are flexible and may extend up to 26 weeks during the school year, between October and May, excluding final-exam weeks and school holidays. The selected student will establish a consistent work schedule in coordination with the Economic Development Program Manager.

Interns who are earning school credit through an educational program may be eligible for a $298.00 stipend per semester, no more than $599.00 per calendar year upon completion of the internship (Board Resolution 21-110).
