Position DescriptionPerforms semi-professional work on various projects and programs. Work is performed under supervision within established policies with latitude for independent judgment. Employee performance is based upon a review of completed work and overall results obtained. May supervise specialized clerical section.
Major/Essential Functions- Supports the Service Plus philosophy of Texas Tech University Health Science Center:
- Treats customers in a kind, courteous manner; Offers responses and solutions to questions and problems in accordance with current HSC Policy and Procedures found in OP Manual.
- Adheres to institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures:
- Maintains a safe environment with no reported violations.
- Manages serials collection:
- Receives, checks in, and processes media for shelving and circulation; Communicates with serials staff in Lubbock and other libraries.
- Purchases library supplies:
- Selects supplies from Staples catalog/portal and other vendors; Communicates with Lubbock Library Accounting Department about availability of funds for supplies; Places orders online; Requests deviations; Receives supplies in mail. Forwards packing slips and invoices to Lubbock Library Accounting Department for payment.
- Circulation and supervision of student assistants backup for Unit Supervisor:
- Staffs circulation desk in absence of Unit Supervisor. Supervises and re-schedules/communicates with student assistants as needed.
- Meets regularly with Unit Associate Director:
- Meets formally with Unit Associate Director once a week and as needed to discuss schedule, plus ad-hoc and ongoing projects.
- New books processing:
- Receives new books and other items, copies packing slips and sent to Technical Services in Lubbock, updates internal book order records, and shelves.
- Deposits checks:
- Receives all checks via Associate Director; Keeps records of deposits; Reconciles checks with receipts for internal billing, and interlibrary loan; Deposits checks; Also, acts as proxy for the department's P-card, making sure that it is reconciled correctly and on-time each month.
- Receives and sorts mail:
- Specialist IV will receive the mail each day and sort it, making sure that items are delivered to the correct staff member.
- Unit Safety Officer -- Adheres to institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures; Coordinate continuing education safety classes for department workers:
- As Unit Safety Officer, the Specialist IV maintains a safe environment with no reported violations. Assists in maintaining a safe environment for coworkers, and ensuring that institution safety rules are being complied with. Makes sure department maintains 100% compliance with safety training compliance.
- Oversees and maintains branch's 3D printers and supplies:
- The Specialist IV (S4) will manage 3D printers, and make sure that they are well maintained (regular maintenance; coordinating supply orders). The S4 will also assist the librarians with 3D printing requests, sometimes interacting directly with the patrons.
Required QualificationsHigh school plus 4 years experience. Additional education may substitute on a year for year basis.
