We are currently seeking and hiring an Assistant Field Education Coordinator - Special Sessions
(AFEC-SS) . We desire a colleague and team member who is qualified, motivated, committed, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented, and who has a passion to educate social work students and develop innovative curriculum. This is a 50% position Special Sessions hire with possibilities to expand up to full-time (exclusively in Special Sessions or in combination with General Sessions depending on available positions). Faculty hires in Special Sessions are paid through the self-support/Special Sessions budget and thus are not eligible for benefits (i.e., health, retirement credit, and/or accrual of service credit). Assistant Field Education Coordinator - Special Sessions (AFEC-SS) is equivalent to a temporary faculty lecturer position with a 0.5 FTEF year-round position (50% of a full-time position). This position can also be designed for remote work, although occasional in-person work might be needed for some duties. Additional employment through teaching and/or other administrative work might be available for those seeking full-time employment.
Brief Description of Duties
- Supervised by the Field Education Director (FED), the Assistant Field Education Coordinator - Special Sessions (AFEC-SS) is responsible for assisting the FED in leading and managing the field education programming for the Special Sessions Online/Hybrid MSW program. This aspect may expand depending on the growth of the Special Sessions programming.
- The AFEC-SS will support online MSW students with the internship search process, planning, orientations, field fairs, administrative tracking databases, course enrollment, and navigating challenges and coordination in order to ensure internship placements.
- The AFEC-SS will create new agency internship partnerships and contracts;
- The AFEC-SS will be a lead and facilitator for our internship tracking system (i.e., In-Place). This individual will need to support students and faculty with troubleshooting, signing off on necessary documents and answer In-Place related questions and concerns.
- Support and liaisonship amongst FFLs (Field Faculty Liaisons) and FIs ( Agency Field Instructors) in the Special Sessions Online/Hybrid MSW Program.
- The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population and their great diversity for example - in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation - through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
- Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). Applicable, only if teaching courses.
- All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bisynchronous, in-person, or hybrid).
- Other duties as assigned may include but are not limited to: helping students to navigate through placement difficulties, tracking new and current student data and internship placement process, supporting agency partners with University related questions or concerns, and managing logistics that will assist the consistency and connection with general sessions programming.
The School of Social Work runs through General and Special Sessions, and has grown in complexity. The field education component is especially complicated given that it includes undergraduate and graduate students, and on-campus as well as distance education programs. As such, the amount of administrative leadership and support needed has increased including the meeting of accreditation standards. Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
Required Qualifications
- MSW from a CSWE-accredited social work program;
- Relevant experience in field education
- Administrative skills in tracking data, excel, PowerPoint/Google slides and other technology platforms;
- Professional, responsible, and dependable;
- Good communication and people skills;
- Strong administrative skills and follow up with deadlines in a timely manner;
- Advanced computer and software knowledge and skills (i.e., MS Office, Google Suite);
- Skills with and/or ability to learn computer systems and software, and multimedia skills (i.e., PeopleSoft, Canvas, Tevera, Qualtrics, Financial Transaction Services, Google Applications)
- Ability to work in teams and independently;
- Ability to prioritize and manage large volume of work;
- Ability to interact and collaborate effectively and professionally with university, community, and agency personnel;
- Adheres to and understands FERPA laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications
- Additional certification, i.e., LCSW, PPSC, etc. preferred;.
- Ph.D. in Social Work or Social Welfare, or related doctorate
- 2 years of post-MSW social work experience; prior supervisory and/or teaching experience including experience in educational or academic settings
- Teaching and supervisory experience in the area of social work, including experience with online pedagogy, is preferred.
- Experience in field internship placement, field education curriculum and seminars, experience in student supervision and advising, experience in developing and overseeing the implementation of various programs associated with the School.
Campus Security Authority
Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) and CSU systemwide policy, the faculty coach member in this position is subject to ongoing review for designation as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). Individuals designated as Campus Security Authorities are required to immediately report Clery incidents to the institution and to complete Clery Act training as determined by the University Clery Director. Compensation
Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. To learn more about range placement, please see University Policy S21-2 . Anticipated hiring ranges:
L-A / Range 2: $2279 per WTU
L-B / Range 3: $2497 per WTU
L-C / Range 4: $3146 per WTU
L-D / Range 5: $3977 per WTU
Ranges are the anticipated monthly salary rate of full-time faculty--part-time rates are prorated. There are salary payments every 3 months.

Conditional Offer
The work for this faculty position is located in the State of California. Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. These provisions state the “Order of Work,” or the order in which available courses must be assigned to faculty, starting with tenure line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees.
