Description:Under the direction of the Fleet Manager, plans, coordinates, and supervises all vehicle and equipment management maintenance and repair operations for the entire City fleet. This position is also responsible for staff supervision and training, budget analysis, preventative maintenance program implementation and management, regulatory compliance management, vendor contract management, and other related duties.
This classification is at the first general management level. Incumbents are charged with the implementation of daily operations related to department functions and/or programs. Duties include developing budgets and monitoring expenditures, supervising non-management program staff, consultants, contractors, and resolving complex customer service issues. Incumbents develop, implement, interpret, and ensure compliance with rules and regulations, laws and codes, policies, and procedures. Project management responsibilities include preparing RFP’s, RFQ’s, and evaluating proposals. Incumbents exercise a high level of technical expertise and prepare written and oral reports for management, boards and commissions, and City Council.
Schedule: In-person 9/80 every other Friday off.

HERE. Essential Duties:- Manages the operations of the maintenance section; controls maintenance workload through subordinate staff; monitors maintenance work both actively and by utilizing a computerized work order tracking system; insures that all maintenance operations are conducted in a safe manner and in compliance with all applicable laws, ordinances, codes, rules, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
- Supervises staff to include: prioritizing work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff are trained and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations. Providing technical guidance when needed.
- Performs technical evaluations of vehicles and equipment; makes recommendations regarding their replacement. Manages the disposal of surplus vehicles and equipment.
- Prepares technical specifications for the procurement of vehicles, equipment, services and supplies. Establishes and administers contracts for services and supplies. Manages vehicle replacement and facilities improvement projects.
- Establishes and administers programs for compliance oversight, such as emissions compliance programs, Advanced Clean Fleets compliance program, BAAQMD, PERPS, etc.
- Conducts safety meetings and provides information presentations for other departments.
- Assists in developing and maintaining short and long-term strategic planning processes in assigned area of responsibility.
- Participates in the development of the division budget; provides input related to budget analysis. Approves expenditures within established guidelines.
- Prepares, reviews, interprets, and analyzes a variety of information, data, and reports; makes recommendations and presentations based on findings.
- Coordinates maintenance and repair work with outside vendors. Oversees the maintenance, testing and repair of all City fueling facilities.
Minimum Qualifications:Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge and skills, which would typically be acquired through:
Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of directly related experience, including two years of prior supervisory experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing Requirements:
• Valid California Driver's License
• NIASE Master Automobile and NIASE Medium/Heavy Truck Technician certificates within one year of appointment.
