The Position

Job Appointment: Full time, Regular
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 9/80 Schedule. This is an essential position during inclement weather, natural disasters, and other water emergencies. You are expected to report to work as soon as possible to help ensure the essential operations of the city’s water infrastructure.
Work Location: Interstate Water Facility, 664 N. Interstate Avenue, Portland, OR

Position Summary:

The City of Portland is seeking a service dispatcher to perform activities related to the dispatcher of equipment and crews in a public utility setting during the normal course of day-to-day activities and during emergencies. Additionally, Service Dispatchers will receive telephone calls from the public concerning complaints and requests for routine and emergency service; give information regarding the City’s responsibility or refer callers to the proper agency; enter data on manual and computerized record forms; and perform other administrative support work assigned.

The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills as well as experience utilizing computer software. As well as having a familiarity with water utilities, and their functions.

Wage Information
Starting salary: $24.37/hour
After six months: $26.42/hour
After one year: $29.37/hour

Currently, the Portland Water Bureau is hiring for a Service Dispatcher, where the employee is considered essential, and will be required to work during inclement weather and other emergencies.

To Qualify

The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:

Experience using computers for entering and tabulating data, such as GIS mapping systems or using any kind of CRM software.Experience understanding and remembering information presented through oral instructions, written directives, or received by telephone, and email, as well as various programs while managing a high call volume.Ability to respond appropriately to questions/ concerns from other employees and the public.Ability to effectively prioritize workload and complete a variety of task in an appropriate and timely manner.Ability to understand and communicate water utilities to and from customers as well as field personnel.
