Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Vice President or designee, and the medical direction of the Medical Director this position functions as a Registered Nurse (RN). The Registered Nurse (RN) primary responsibility is to provide responsive, sound, and accurate medical triage and assessment of patients. Medical triage in telephone/telehealth and/or in person --for medical issues pertaining to Urgent/ Ambulatory and Psychiatric care. Additional responsibilities include the ability to provide leadership, clinical direction, and mentoring of Medical Assistants (MA), and Clinical Assisting (CA) staff; perform nursing procedures common to Ambulatory and Urgent Care as directed by medical providers; clinical protocols not limited to medication administration, IV insertion, audiometry, spirometry. Knowledge of professional nursing principles, methods, and procedures. Thorough knowledge of medical terminology and clinical equipment use.

Adhere to compliance with all regulatory agencies and university standards including, but are not limited to: HIPPA, FERPA, CDC (Centers for Disease Control), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), QA (Quality Assurance), QI (Quality Improvement), and benchmarking activities.

Must also possess the ability to communicate with internal and external customers and provide exceptional customer service. Maintains and supports service-oriented relationships with all customers not limited to clinic staff, campus community, vendors, and the community. FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,000 per month - $8,610 per month, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,816 per month - $9,293 per month

Department Information

Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS) embraces a holistic and collaborative approach to healthcare by offering urgent care, primary care, preventative services, wellness education, violence support services, and mental health, services to the Sacramento State campus community. SHCS is committed to providing quality care and service delivery and is accredited through the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge:

In addition to those of the Registered Nurse I, possess broader and specialized nursing knowledge that supports the performance of specialized duties in such areas as, but not limited to, triage and assessment, patient counseling, and staffing specialized nursing clinics; broader knowledge of clinic operations and the development and implementation of a nursing program, including procedures and protocols.

Abilities:

In addition to those of the Registered Nurse I, ability to effectively apply specialized nursing skills.

Education and Experience:

In addition to those of the Registered Nurse I, one year of professional nursing experience which has provided evidence of the ability to work independently in specialized nursing activities and to support the overall nursing program within the Student Health Center; or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

License and Certifications:

Possess and maintain a valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of California and certification in CPR/AED.

Required Qualifications

Licenses/Certification
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) & Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) Current, valid California license as a Registered Nurse.
Experience
Experience in administering and interpreting Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived laboratory tests under nursing protocols including but not limited to: Urinalysis, pregnancy testing, rapid strep, mono spot, hematocrit, etc. Experience in assessing patients in urgent care and primary care. Experience working with an Electronic Health Records System (EHR). Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of HIPAA and all Confidentiality laws Knowledge and ability to interpret ambulatory care setting standards for AAAHC accreditation requirements. Ability to deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external customers. Ability to apply good judgment, decision-making and problem solving Knowledge in assessing patient needs in an urgent care/psychiatric care environment. Knowledge of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) Privacy Rules and California state laws regulating privacy and confidentiality of health information Ability to use standard office and medical equipment and software programs (i.e., Microsoft Office) Excellent oral and written communication skills. Thorough knowledge of uses and effects of medications including narcotics and IV medications Knowledge of medical triage and assessment of patients. Knowledge of and commitment to preventative health care. Multicultural competency in the delivery of services. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.
Equipment
Ability to use Nebulizer, Audiometer, Suction machine, EKG (electrocardiogram), Vital Sign Machine/Pulse oximeter, Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), Zoll defibrillator, Crash Cart, and other specialized medical equipment as directed.
Conditions of Employment

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school Two years’ experience in the provision of nursing care in the primary and urgent care environment. Experience in nursing triage in an acute/urgent care environment experience in reproductive health care

Required Licenses/Certifications
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) & Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) Current, valid California license as a Registered Nurse
