The Department of Transportation (DOT) plans, develops, operates, and maintains transportation facilities, services, and related systems which contribute to the livability and economic health of the City. We comprise a team of more than 500 people ready to serve the needs of our residents to improve the efficiency and safety of San José streets. Position Duties

The Department of Transportation is currently seeking to fill 1 vacancy for the Transportation Specialist position.

The Planning and Policy Team promotes community-driven, sustainable mobility solutions by advancing multimodal plans and projects, integrating data-driven insights, and aligning policies with climate, safety, and equity goals.

Under the general direction of the Associate Transportation Specialist, the Transportation Specialist supports transportation planning efforts that advance the goals and policies of the General Plan, Climate Smart San José, and the Move San José Plan. This role assists with the development and delivery of multimodal master plans, complete streets conceptual designs, and Geographical Information System (GIS) tasks. This position fulfills technical and communications roles by effectively coordinating with City staff, partner and neighbor agencies, and community members to help create and implement transportation plans, policies, and pilot programs. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

The position requires occasional attendance and participation at evening public meetings and weekend public workshops, as well as occasional field surveys throughout the city.

Minimum Qualifications

(These qualifications are typically required. An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be substituted.)

Education
Bachelor’s Degree in transportation planning, city and regional planning, urban studies, civil engineering, environmental studies or related field.

Required Licensing:
Possession of a valid driver’s license authorizing operation of a vehicle in the State of California is required.
