Overview

Are you looking for an Environmental Health Internship? The Health and Environment Department has an opportunity for a temporary Environmental Health Intern!

This is a temporary internship position with the Tobacco Prevention Team at Larimer County Department of Health and Environment. This position will work with our team to promote and connect community members to resources and treatment for tobacco & nicotine addiction.

We are looking for someone who is interested in building relationships with current healthcare providers and researching best practices for cessation and treatment in the health care setting. If you are interested, our team can work with you on how to integrate this internship into your capstone or practicum project.

Responsibilities

What You'll Be Doing:

• Conducting a best-practice scan for culturally relevant tobacco cessation resources.
• Researching healthcare providers serving the community and their cessation offerings.
• Meeting with healthcare providers to assess and expand cessation resources.
• Analyzing community survey data to understand tobacco prevention and cessation needs.
• Studying cessation models currently used in healthcare settings.
• Collaborating with providers to implement evidence-based cessation practices.
• Assisting in creating and promoting tobacco prevention materials.
• Participating in team meetings and supporting related initiatives.
• Representing the project at community events, sharing culturally relevant cessation resources.
• Developing skills in public health competencies, including health equity, community partnerships, and communication.

What we're looking for:

• Familiarity with general office practices and procedures.
• Proficiency in using routine software and business applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
• Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to understand and apply department and County rules, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
• Initiative and capability to work both independently and collaboratively in a group.
• Regular, predictable attendance and availability to work 10-15 hours per week in a hybrid capacity.
• Strong time management skills.
• Ability to multi-task and complete work efficiently in a busy environment.
• Understanding of social needs, social determinants of health, and health equity.

• Sophomore-level coursework in Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field, required.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License required.
• Colorado School of Public Health or Department of Environmental Health student at Colorado State University preferred.

Supplemental Information
