With the upcoming retirement of the City’s well respected and successful Public Works Director, the City is seeking another technically competent, experienced, personable, engaging, and customer service oriented leader as Public Works Director to continue the organization’s success.  Under the day-to-day guidance of the Deputy City Manager, and as a trusted resource of the City Manager and City Council, the Public Works Director oversees a competent and experienced team of approximately 200 personnel responsible for the management of the City’s streets, sidewalks, street trees, storm drains, water/wastewater and traffic signals.  The Public Works Director is also responsible for engineering services, records management, assessment districts, emergency management, public transit, encroachment permits, environmental sustainability, recycling, hazardous waste collection services, the Municipal Service Center and the Hill Canyon Wastewater Treatment Plant

 

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities to serve as Public Works Director would be a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; and 10 years of increasingly responsible civil engineering, public works or utilities experience, including 3 years of management/administrative responsibility.  California licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) and/or a Master’s degree in Public Policy or Public Administration are highly desirable  The annual salary range of the position is $198,857 to $298,285, and the City provides an excellent benefit package.
