Definition & Distinguishing Characteristics

Under the direct supervision of the Transit Manager, the Operations Supervisor coordinates transit operations, including the maintenance shop, while providing administrative support. Key responsibilities include supervising staff, managing the equipment maintenance program, preparing schedules and payroll, maintaining records, ordering parts, and training personnel. Additional duties involve assisting with dispatch, operating transit buses as needed, and performing related tasks to ensure efficient and compliant service. Receives direct supervision from the Transit Manager.

Exercises direct supervision over transit drivers, Lead Transit Specialist, and maintenance personnel.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: - Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

License or Certificate:
Possession of a Class A or B California Driver's License with a current Passenger (P) endorsement.

Current General Public Para-transit Vehicle (GPPV) Certificate.

DOT Medical Certificate.

Supplemental Information

The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
