Job Summary/Objective:As a Deputy Clerk I, Circuit Court at Clerk of the Circuit Court, COCC, applicant will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Circuit Court. Applicant will be expected to perform a variety of clerical duties, including filing, data entry, and record keeping. Their attention to detail and ability to multitask will be essential in ensuring the efficient operation of the court. Applicant will work closely with judges, attorneys, and other court personnel to ensure that court proceedings run smoothly and efficiently. Their role will be critical in maintaining the integrity of the court system. This position will be specifically in our civil division handling filings, pleadings and courtroom duties related to civil cases, particularly domestic relations, contract, personal injury, and business dispute matters.

Essential Functions: As a Deputy Clerk I, Circuit Court, applicant will need to have excellent organizational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Applicant will also need to have strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with judges, attorneys, and other court personnel. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and attention to detail are also essential skills for this role. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred but not required. In this role, applicant will use their skills to ensure the efficient operation of the court and provide excellent customer service to court patrons.
- Collects information; Responsible for a variety of routine administrative assignments;
- Track exhibits and court cases in the courtroom;
- Answers routine correspondence for supervisor;
- Establishes and maintains files;
- Performing clerical duties such as filing, data entry, and record keeping
- Assisting judges, attorneys, and other court personnel in court proceedings
- Preparing and processing court documents
- Provides back-up for department administrative staff;
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience: - High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of clerical experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Experience working in a court or legal setting
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
Remote Work: This position is not eligible for remote work. All County staff must maintain residence within the Commonwealth of Virginia.

- Conducts work in a sitting position
- Job requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and light lifting
- Requires frequent operation of a variety of office machines
Salary Range: The hiring salary for this position is $19.44 - $21.49 per hour (approx. $40,434 - $44690 per year). Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum requirements and internal equity. The position also provides excellent benefits including 12 paid holidays, paid vacation, and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, VRS retirement, and continuing education/training opportunities. This is a full time, FLSA non-exempt position. Internal candidates will receive pay adjustments in accordance with Local Government Personnel Policy, P-60.
