Description
Duties Description The NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) is a state agency within the Executive Department that is responsible for the care and management of 35 state historic sites and 180 parks. Collectively, these public facilities provide both residents and visitors access to natural, historic, and scenic resources with opportunities for outdoor recreation and places to learn about New York’s rich cultural heritage. The Program Aide will perform paraprofessional duties and provide program and technical assistance for one or more professional or technical positions. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources Management.
Duties may include: preparing routine correspondence, collecting and analyzing data, assisting in the preparation, review and evaluation of a variety of reports and records, making routine determinations of compliance with agency rules and regulations, perform other tasks which fall under the categories of communication, coordination, organization, technology and records maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates from within state service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
OR
Candidates within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Program Aide eligible list.
OR
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (HELPS) program as a Program Aide if they have 3 years of experience performing clerical, keyboarding, or paraprofessional work in an office environment.
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. Upon one year of permanent appointment, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Additional Comments Operational Needs:
Candidate must be able to work a standard Monday to Friday schedule, e.g., 8 AM to 4 PM or 9 AM to 5 PM.
Well Qualified Candidates Will Possess:
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly with Excel, Word, Access, Adobe Pro, and the Internet (Internet Explorer/Microsoft Edge and/or Google Chrome).
