Description
Duties Description The incumbent will work with the Regional Natural Resources Operations Department under the direction of the departmental manager. The incumbent will be required to undertake and assist with activities related to the operational management of natural resources to promote public safety, protect infrastructure, maintain managed natural areas and features, and support the public’s pursuit of hunting and fishing activities. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
• Assist with nuisance wildlife mitigation programs and public education (monitoring, aversive conditioning, reporting, oral presentations).
• Perform tree work including felling and pruning; utilizing chainsaws, pole saws, and other equipment.
• Operate equipment (tractor and implements, boat, ATV, UTV, snowmobile, chainsaw, etc.).
• Assist with emergency response activities such as storm cleanup.
• Assist with propagation and care of trees and shrubs in assigned areas.
• Monitor the security and operational status of departmental assets.
• Perform routine maintenance on a variety of mechanical equipment and specialized equipment.
• Produce records of daily activities.
• May assist with other departments on projects and initiatives such as, but not limited to, invasive species management, regional trail maintenance, and environmental education.
• Follow instructions, including written direction, accurately and efficiently.
• Communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor and to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must complete First Aid CPR/AED training and must maintain the certification as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be available to work a variable schedule that includes weekends, holidays and/or evening shifts.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Educational background in Natural Resource Conservation, Forestry, Environmental Science, Ecology, or closely related field.
• Experience and familiarity with the laws and safety practices relating to hunting, trapping, fishing, and boating.
• Experience operating chainsaws, wood-chippers, and farm tractors.

This position is a 27-week long position (April 1- September 28).
