Description
Duties Description Under the direction of the Historic Site Manager and Maintenance Supervisor, the selected candidate will perform a range of tasks associated with the maintenance of a historic site with multiple historic buildings and grounds. Duties include, but are not limited to:
* Perform buildings and grounds maintenance:
* maintenance of building interiors, including vacuuming carpets, sweeping floors, dusting surfaces, cleaning windows, emptying waste baskets, and sanitizing & restocking restrooms in both buildings. It also includes maintaining a high level of cleanliness, checking & replacing anything in disrepair, and performing maintenance tasks on cleaning equipment.
* ground upkeeping, including seasonal tasks such as mowing, weeding, edging, trimming hedges, leaf & brush removal, watering plants, snow and ice removal through shoveling, snowblower or plowing, and maintaining safe public walkways. Regular rounds of the entire site are required.
* oversee building appliances and systems are operating and maintained. Includes changing or cleaning filters, organization and storage of tools, replacing equipment, and monitoring of lightbulbs and alarm batteries. Load and unload cargo from vehicles and provide assistance to staff when necessary.
* Set up and dismantled equipment such as tents, tables, chairs, and other specialty fixtures for site programs and events.
* Assist interpretive staff at events with parking, traffic control, monitoring fires, moving exhibit cases, and transferring furniture to and from the attic or cellar.
* Assist the maintenance supervisor with tasks such as painting, preservation carpentry, and masonry projects as needed.
* Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.
Preferred Qualification: Experience in maintaining historic sites, buildings, or similar facilities is desirable.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
* Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
* Ability to work outdoors year-round.
* Must possess basic computer skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently as well as with others.
* Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor, including medium-heavy lifting.
* Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.
* Will be required to undergo training in the proper care and maintenance of historic sites and buildings.
