Description
OverviewLarimer County is looking for an experienced and skilled professional to join our Finance Department as the Controller!
In this key leadership role, you'll oversee the county's financial operations, ensure accurate and transparent financial reporting, and manage critical accounting and compliance functions.
This hybrid position offers a great balance of flexibility and collaboration. You'll have the option to work in the office two days a week and remotely three days a week, with a flexible Monday-Friday schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be doing:
- Ensuring compliance with state and federal statutes regarding financials, audits, and tax requirements.
- Overseeing adherence to Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for government accounting.
- Directing and managing daily accounting operations, including payment processing, the purchasing card program, and vendor management.
- Serving as the Product Owner for the County's financial system.
- Leading the annual statutory audit and federal grants audit (Single Audit) processes.
- Managing the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
- Supervising professional and administrative staff directly.

- A strong technical background in accounting and finance, with expertise in governmental accounting, auditing programs, GAAP, and GASB regulations.
- Dedication to maintaining the County’s tradition of earning the Government Finance Officers Association’s Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting achieved since 1982.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state grant regulations related to governmental accounting.
- Experience with accounting operations, including vendor management, purchasing cards, vendor payments, and 1099 processing.
- Ability to cultivate a collaborative and inclusive team culture where all members feel supported and valued.
- Skills to build and maintain a culture of trust within the department and across the organization.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and achieving operational excellence.
- Proficiency in utilizing complex enterprise accounting systems.

- Five years of experience in governmental accounting and finance, including preparing complex financial statements such as an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), or performing similar duties and responsibilities.
- Three years of experience in preparing and implementing complex financial management systems and policies required.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience, from an accredited college or university in Accounting required. Related education or experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- Three years of supervisory experience.
