Position Information

This recruitment is to establish an Eligibility List for the June 30, 2025, Law Enforcement Academy held at Butte Community College. The Academy will run June through December, 2025, and the City is looking to sponsor up to 5 individuals based on Council-approved budgeting. Individuals who successfully complete the academy will subsequently roll to "A step" probationary Police Officer status.

TESTING INFORMATION

Written Exam : The City of Chico utilizes the POST Entry-level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB). Applicants desiring to waive the written examination are required to submit proof of a valid and recent (issued within 12 months) POST T-score of 47 or higher. Qualified applicants who do not submit a valid T-score will be invited to participate in a written exam. For more information regarding this exam please visit www.post.ca.gov.

Physical Agility :
This recruitment will include completing a rigorous physical agility process. Candidates who have successfully completed the City of Chico physical agility or a standardized WSTB course within the last six months may be exempted from the required agility course. Please contact Human Resources, at 530-879-7907, for more information on exemptions, if needed.

Exams for this recruitment are being held February 8, 2025.

Job Description

Under supervision, to receive Police Officer basic academy training in a wide variety of law enforcement assignments; to perform non-sworn duties as required in a training, Police Department, or field setting; to perform other academy related work as required.

Education :

High school graduation or equivalent.

Additional State of California Requirements : Pursuant to California Government Code section 1031.5: Any person employed by a governmental agency as a peace officer or a peace officer trainee must be a citizen of the United States; or be a permanent resident alien and have applied for citizenship.

A person who has not obtained citizenship within three years after application for employment due to non-cooperation with the government agency processing the citizenship application, or a person who has been denied citizenship, is disqualified from being or becoming a police officer.

Pursuant to California Government Code 1031.4: Any peace officer employed by an agency that participates in the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) program shall be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or operate controls, objects, and/or tools listed above, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and taste and/or smell.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Environmental Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, in high precarious places, and with explosives, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
