DEFINITION/STANDARDS:
Supervises a team of educators responsible for carrying out school-based health related education, coaching and support programs and services that reduce substance use and related adverse health and social outcomes.

CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:
Positions allocable to this supervisory level class report to a manager. Incumbents oversee planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating health education programs and activities designed to motivate individual and groups of youth to modify or maintain behaviors that promote optimum health and personal safety. Such activities include supervising the determination of health education needs and problems in school community and establishing priorities in planning and developing health education programs for the solution of such problems. Incumbents lead the development of timelines tied to achievable goals. Guiding and supporting the method of implementation by the youth educator with established program and professional guidelines. Incumbents supervise Youth Educators that may consult with subject matter experts across the Department of Public Health for technical assistance and designing program plans, including those related to sexually transmitted disease, tobacco control and substance use, mental and reproductive health.

These positions require supervisorial knowledge of principles and program planning, administration, and organization; methodologies, concepts, and practices related to: health behavior modification, positive youth development, at-risk youth engagement; the ability to develop and evaluate programs, collect, evaluate, and synthesize data, draw conclusions, identify health equity gaps, and formulate recommendations in connection with community health needs; interpret Federal, State, County, and local school district legislative regulation and mandates; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with school and county staff, youth, parents and other public and private agencies; and effectively communicate verbally and orally.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A Master's degree* from an accredited college or university.

-AND-

Two years of experience in community organization work, community group activities, educational programs or related programs.

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class II - Light:This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This assessment type will evaluate the education and experience you list on a questionnaire and assign a score based on a standardized scoring system.

This part of the assessment is worth 100% of your total score and assesses: Minimum Requirements and Desirable Qualifications.

Candidates must meet the Minimum Requirements and the passing score for the assessment part is 70%.


Passing this examination and being added to the Eligible Register does not guarantee an offer of employment.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:

Candidates who passed the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies as they occur.

NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS .
