POSITION: Under supervision, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs various light, medium, and heavy-duty City vehicles and equipment and assists other mechanics as needed.

JOB TASKS

QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certificates A-1 thru A-9, Alternate Fuels Technician (Test F1), and maintain a valid California Class B Driver License AND three years’ professional work experience as an automotive/equipment Mechanic performing light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicle repair to include working on emergency vehicles.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in outdoor and service garage environments. Work may require frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting 70 pounds. Incumbents may be exposed to repetitive motion, moving automotive parts, traffic, hazardous fumes, and chemicals.

THE SELECTION PROCESS: The examination process consists of one or more of the following: (1) Training and Experience Evaluation, (2) a Written Exam, and (3) a Qualifications Appraisal Interview with a panel of subject matter experts. Candidates must receive a 70-100 to have their names on the active eligibility list for one year. The top three ranks on the Eligibility List will have their application materials forwarded to the hiring authority for a selection interview. Applicants whose experience best meets the City’s needs will be invited to participate in the examination process for this position. Candidates must have access to a computer with internet, video, and audio capabilities to participate in our examination process.
