OverviewThe District Attorney’s Office for the 8th Judicial District (Larimer and Jackson Counties) has an opening for a
Deputy District Attorney position in our SVU unit. Any attorney with an interest in helping our office prosecute those who prey on the most vulnerable victims are encouraged to apply.
Our primary office is located in Fort Collins, and our second office is in Loveland. Both are set in a picturesque region featuring the Cache La Poudre and Big Thompson rivers, Horsetooth Reservoir, and Rocky Mountain National Park. Fort Collins offers a vibrant community with opportunities for running, biking, and yoga and a lively cultural scene with over 20 craft breweries, Colorado State University, and numerous family-friendly events.

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

- Reviewing felony case filing materials, carefully examining evidence, witness statements, and the nature of the crime to make independent decisions on whether to continue prosecution.
- Conducting legal research and preparing reports, helping to shape recommendations for the District Attorney's Office policies, procedures, and operations.
- Representing the County in felony-level criminal proceedings, including case scheduling, plea negotiations, probation revocation hearings, motions, and sentencing hearings.
- Prosecuting cases in both jury and court trials, ensuring justice is pursued effectively and efficiently.

- Someone who can take on felony-level sexual offense cases, as well as those involving fatal child abuse or serious bodily injury to a child.
- A professional who uses sound judgment and discretion to determine the best approaches and methods for their work.
- Someone with prior experience managing complex felony-level cases.
QualificationsDepending on qualifications, this position could hire as Deputy District Attorney III or IV.

Deputy District Attorney III - Deputy District Attorney III positions are generally filled by the advancement of a Deputy District Attorney II or similarly qualified candidate.
- Equivalent to a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school required.
- Current license to practice law in Colorado, or obtain it within two (2) months of hire required.
Deputy District Attorney IV - Deputy District Attorney IV positions are generally filled by the advancement of a Deputy District Attorney III or similarly qualified candidate.
- Equivalent to a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school required.
- Must be licensed to practice law in the state of Colorado.
