Maintenance Worker I - Wastewater Treatment Plant (Temporary)
Description
Our Maintenance Worker Water I (Temporary) performs all necessary technical and physical functions required to maintain the buildings, grounds and structures of the Wastewater Treatment Plant with guidance from the Treatment Plant Lead Operator and/or Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager.
This position is a temporary position (10-month maximum), working 40 hours per week .
The pay range is $20.70 to $27.95 per hour, with a hiring range of $20.70 to $24.33 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. This opportunity will remain open until filled. Essential Functions - Maintain grounds and structures at treatment facility by performing physical labor such as mowing, painting, cleaning, spraying weeds, landscaping and snow removal.
- Operate trucks, tractors, and hand and power tools.
- Building specialized tools and projects.
- Utilize and supervise temporary, volunteer, or community service workers.
- Record all jobs completed and problems.
- Perform maintenance and repair on a variety of small motorized and hand tools.
- Clean clarifiers and tanks.
- Maintain proper inventory of paints, materials, supplies, and chemicals necessary to perform all duties related to grounds maintenance.
- Maintain buildings, offices, and equipment by waxing, stripping, washing, and buffing; cleaning toilets, windows, tables and chairs; painting walls, ceilings, pumps, and pipes; building shelves or other special projects.
- Move furniture and equipment.
- Record all work and problems encountered.
Other Job Functions - Assist technical service personnel in grounds, building or equipment maintenance when necessary.
- Assist with the plant operators, operations sampling plan and process control as needed.
- Take part in special grounds, building or equipment modification projects.
- Answer telephone and responds to complaints and inquiries from the general public.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education: High School or GED
Required Experience: 1 year Maintenance experience including grounds and building maintenance in a comparable position and jurisdiction.
Certifications: Must possess a valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Communicate in a positive and friendly manner with coworkers, supervisors and general public.
- Establish and maintain effective working relations with coworkers and supervisor.
- Operate a variety of light, medium and heavy construction equipment.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Knowledge of standard and emergency operating procedures.
- Handle hazardous materials in a safe manner.
- Inspect and determine status of equipment and unit processes using audio, visual, aromatic and tactile indicators.
- Interpret and apply City policies and safety regulations.
- Work on call as needed.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: - Frequent strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.
- Occasional exposure to marginal to moderate conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.
- Frequent exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements
