DEFINITION Under the general direction of the Innovation and Economic Development Director, performs administrative work in the planning and coordination of the City's economic development program, including business recruitment, job development, and business retention. Develops marketing strategies designed to promote City as a business destination. Conducts research and provides information services on matters of economic health, property tax issues, economic and real estate trends, and international development. Supports and teams with other City Staff working on neighborhood issues; serves as a member of the department's management team; serves as a staff liaison to various local organizations; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is a management classification that has considerable latitude in managing and directing the Economic Development Program. Incumbents in this classification have a broad range of independence within policy and procedural limitations. This classification is distinguished from the Economic Development Director who is the department head with overall responsibility for the City’s economic development, including economic and workforce development. It is further distinguished from the Economic Development Specialist who performs complex professional research and project coordination work.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED General direction is provided by the Innovation and Economic Development Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED May supervise the work of assigned staff.

ACTING PAYIf work minimum of 5 consecutive calendar days, paid @ lowest step of higher class with at least a 5% differential. If assignment > 12 months, optional increment of up to 7% or max of the range, whichever is less.
SPECIAL PROJECT PAYIf work minimum of 30 calendar days, 5%-7% differential. If full supervisory, additional % to reflect 2.5% over highest compensated subordinate. If assignment > 12 months, optional increase of up to 7%

Must be certified by Department Head, approved by City Manager, and used on the job.
