Description

The City of Salinas is the 33rd largest city in the state with a population of over 161,000 and is in beautiful Monterey County, California. Salinas has great career opportunities for two Assistant Community Development Directors. In collaboration with the Community Development Director, these positions will plan, organize, direct, and manage the day-to-day activities and operations of the Community Development Department and assist in the overall management of the department to support the Director. This Assistant Community Development Director position assists the Director in planning, organizing, directing, and managing overall activities and operations of the Permit Center functions of  planning, permit services and code enforcement. This position manages the compilation, analysis, and publication of statistics and other information related to the operations and key metrics associated with the functions and programs of assigned divisions and assists in the preparation of the department’s budget including general, capital improvement, and grant funds to include forecasting, on-going budget reconciliation, and associated documentation utilized to effectuate needed adjustments. The City is seeking a collaborative, creative, and emotionally intelligent leader. The ideal candidate must have the ability to engage and affect action and response as well as manage sensitive situations effectively. A forward thinking, customer service oriented, and politically astute candidate is desired. Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training, and problem-solving techniques is required. The selected candidate must have the ability to maintain and exhibit discretion, honesty, and integrity along with the ability to support and promote the City Manager and City Council’s policies, goals, and vision.

The annual salary range for the Assistant Community Development Director is $144,048 - $183,864; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
