About Us: We work directly with the public as they enjoy our 40 swimming pools and 23 splash pads. We provide our pool lifeguards with regular training and recertification. About You: You enjoy working with people from all backgrounds, representing an inclusive, community engaged agency! You are a motivated, experienced Lead Lifeguard looking for a supervisory role. You are ready to engage with the public and provide supervision and training to a staff of Pool Lifeguards and Senior Pool Lifeguards. You are ready operate a public pool facility, motivate staff, and enforce county and state code and policy.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:

Option I: Six months of full-time or 960 hours of part-time experience as a Senior Pool Lifeguard in Los Angeles County service*.

Option II: Six months of full-time or 960 hours of part-time experience supervising lifeguards at a swimming pool.

*Currently holds or previously held the payroll title of Senior Pool Lifeguard with the County of Los Angeles.
LICENSE:

May require a valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class IV: - Arduous: This class involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. It includes those positions that occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity such as those in Safety positions.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES:
Certificate must be valid and will be verified at time of appointment the following certificates are not required at the time of application but must be valid and will be verified at the time of appointment. Before final appointment, candidates must attend and successfully complete the Department of Parks and Recreation Pool Lifeguard Training Program and obtain the following Certificates (or equivalent):
American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate American Red Cross Emergency Medical Response Certificate
Certified Pool Operator Certificate (Pool & Hot Tub Alliance)
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor's Certificate
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor's Certificate
American Red Cross Emergency Medical Response Instructor's Certificate

Vision:
At least 20/30 with both eyes open with correction.

Additional Information

OUR ASSESESMENT PROCESS:
This examination will consist of an Evaluation of Training and Experience, and Supplemental Questionnaire based on application information, weighted 100%.


Applicants must meet the requirements and must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.

Notice of Non-Acceptance and Final Result letters will be sent electronically to your e-mail address. Scores cannot be given over the telephone.

PRE-PLACEMENT MEDICAL EXAMINATION
Employment is subject to passing a medical examination which will be scheduled after security clearance for candidates who receive contingent offers of employment.
