The City of Sunnyvale ITD Project Management Office (PMO) is in the process of establishing a fit-for-purpose PMO and is seeking a Senior Project Manager to play a key role in executing strategic initiatives and setting up the PMO. This role is responsible for providing cross-functional project management for the IT PMO, acting as the primary liaison between the City of Sunnyvale's department teams and IT teams supporting various projects. The Senior Project Manager will be tasked with defining requirement gathering strategies, identifying risks, managing deliverables, and establishing project schedules. Additionally, they will lead a cross-functional team to ensure the PMO's readiness in alignment with the project plan. The Senior Project Manager will work closely with the City's departments to ensure project alignment with their vision and goals. The success of the PMO and project teams is critical to the overall success in serving the residents of Sunnyvale. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact through leadership, hands-on experience supporting all City departments, and a passion for leading change within a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. Strong project management skills in systems implementations and/or infrastructure projects are required along with a clear understanding of PMO practices.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Senior Applications Analyst / Project Manager is an advanced journey level classification in the Applications Analyst / Project Manager series that designs, configures, installs, recommends, evaluates, and maintains application systems, scripts or reports Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility, complexity of duties assigned and independence of action taken. The Senior Applications Analyst / Project Manager is distinguished from the lower-level classification of Applications Analyst I/II / Project Coordinator I/II in that the Senior Applications Analyst / Project Manager requires a higher level of technical and specialized application and business intelligence system expertise and an emphasis in multiple areas of focus. This classification is distinguished from the higher-level Principal Applications Analyst / Project Manager in that the Principal Applications Analyst / Project Manager independently designs and implements the most complex systems, leads larger IT projects and supervises.
The Applications Analyst / Project Manager classification series has four (4) distinct areas of focus listed below. To be hired as a Senior Applications Analyst / Project Manager, the candidate must demonstrate the minimum qualifications with an emphasis in at least two of the areas of focus below:

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds is also required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodation.

NOTE: A Master's of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field may be substituted for one year of experience.

Possession at time of hire and continued maintenance of a valid California driver's license and a safe driving record, or the ability to provide alternate transportation which is approved by the appointing authority.

EXAM PROCESS

Applications will be competitively screened based on the minimum qualifications of this position. Based upon a review of the application materials, the most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process, which may consist of an oral examination scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, 2025 and/or Thursday, March 27, 2025. ( Note: The examination process may be changed as deemed necessary by the Director of Human Resources).

SELECTION PROCESS

Those candidates that receive a passing score on the examination will be placed on an eligibility list for up to one year, in accordance with the City's Civil Service Rules and Administrative Policies. Top candidates on the eligibility list will be invited to participate in an in person selection interview with the Information Technology Department tentatively scheduled on Monday, April 14, 2025 - Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

Any candidate selected by the hiring department will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment process, which may consist of a comprehensive background investigation, as well as medical exam(s) administered by a City-selected physician(s) before hire. Prior to starting work, all newly-hired employees will be fingerprinted to check conviction history. A conviction history will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from appointment; however, failure to disclose conviction history will result in refusal of employment or termination.
