Autopsy Assistants who assist pathologists in conducting autopsies, maintain the forensic facility, including tools, instruments and equipment, and transport human remains.

DCAP Account - County Paid Life Insurance - AD&D Insurance - 529 Savings Plan - Wellness Program Commuter Services - Employee Discounts CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 1) Physical: Candidates must possess physical strength to move bodies from gurney to autopsy table, and into/from a transport vehicle; may require hiking and climbing, as well as ability to lift, drag, and haul dead bodies weighing up to 300 pounds or more to remove them from the scene of death using acceptable removal techniques. Requires full range of motion and finger dexterity for grasping, holding and pushing to handle a variety of tools for cutting and suturing of bodies. Must be able to tolerate unpleasant odors from decomposed bodies and stand for long periods of time. Requires working with/near/around a variety of chemicals used in cleaning, preserving specimens, and associated with causes/results of death.
2) Background: Candidates will be fingerprinted and must pass a background investigation, which may include a drug test, polygraph, and/or psychological evaluation.
3) License: Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver license.
4) Availability: Incumbents must be available for all shifts and may be required to work, or be on call for work, on weekends or holidays. Incumbents are required to be "on call" for a one-week period on a rotating basis with other autopsy assistants.
NOTE: Refusal of a job offer or interview due to shift may result in removal from the eligibility list.
5) Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum RequirementsExperience: One (1) year full-time equivalent paid work experience (within the past year) assisting pathologists with autopsies in a forensic pathology (morgue) setting, which includes collecting, securing, and preparing specimens from human remains.
Note: Experience as an intern or in a volunteer program is not considered qualifying.
