The Job

This recruitment is only open to current San Bernardino County, Fire Department, or Special Districts employees who hold a regular, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, Work Experience Program (WEX), or intern position.

Your County employment must be clearly listed in your work experience section.

Former extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, Work Experience Program (WEX), or interns are eligible to apply up to six (6) months from the end of their assignment.

The Sheriff's Department Coroner Division is recruiting for Supervising Deputy Coroner Investigators I who supervise staff involved in investigating, certifying, and establishing classifications of death which fall under the jurisdiction of the Coroner Division. Supervising Deputy Coroner Investigatorsare responsible for coordinating activity and staff assigned to geographical region, shift, or the Morgue, and handle more complex investigations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

1) Positions are located throughout the County; work location may change to meet the needs of the department.
2) Positions require open availability to work various shifts including weekends, holidays, and on-call/standby as needed to meet the needs of the department.
3) Must pass a background investigation including fingerprint/DOJ, polygraph and psychological evaluation.
4) Must possess physical agility and strength due to the nature of the work, as the ability to move bodies and other heavy objects may be required.
5) A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
6) Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Minimum Requirements

Certificate: Possession of current CA P.O.S.T. Basic Death Investigations, Module A and Module B certifications.

--AND--

Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a Coroner Investigator in a California Coroner or Medical Examiners organization.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a college degree or certification as either a fellow or diplomate of the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI). In addition, the ideal candidate will have strong supervision or lead worker experience over professional staff.
