Description
The City of Foster City is looking for an
Equipment Maintenance Worker to perform semi-skilled work in servicing automotive and other equipment and assisting in more complex repair and maintenance work. They will have knowledge of tools and equipment associated with the work and will understand mechanical and electrical systems of automotive and motorized equipment. They will have knowledge of basic components of automotive equipment, required methods of preventative maintenance, and inspection of vehicles and equipment. The candidate would know the tools, equipment, and procedures used in the proper servicing of automotive and other mechanical equipment. They will also be able to perform routine computer data entry on daily work performed and use the computer to retrieve records regarding previous repairs.
Education and Experience Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:
Education : Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by coursework or specialized training in automotive mechanics or a related field.
Experience : Two years full-time, paid experience in mechanical maintenance, including one year of experience working with diesel and gasoline powered equipment.
Licenses, Certificates, Registration Licenses :
- Possession of a valid California Class "C" and Class "B" Driver's License. Must obtain valid California Class “B” Driver’s License within six months of appointment.
- Possession of a M1 license is desirable at the time of appointment. If the applicant is not in possession of a M1 at the time of appointment, the individual must obtain the M1 license prior to completion of their probationary period and must maintain the M1 license at a condition of employment.

Selection ProcessApplications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training, and other job-related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process.
The process will consist of an oral panel interview (weighted 50%), a written exercise (weighted 25%), and practical exercise (weighted 25%). An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner.
The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Public Works Department will make the hiring decision.

Note: Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee that a candidate will be invited to participate in the selection process. The City of Foster City reserves the right, at its discretion, to limit the number of qualified candidates invited to the selection process.
