The Department of Public Works is recruiting for one (1) Code Enforcement Technician. The Department of Public Works seeks a confident, communicative leader and skilled administrator to help support stormwater pollution from entering our local creeks and bay. The successful incumbent will have the opportunity to implement several inspection and response programs related to stormwater systems and associated regulations, and work with various community members including residents, property owners, contractors, businesses, and property management firms. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively and possess excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate technical information and foster productive relationships with community members and colleagues.

The Water and Sewer Utilities Department operates and maintains water distribution mains, storage tanks, groundwater wells, recycled water system, and sanitary sewer collection systems. For more information about Water and Sewer Utilities please visit the department website .

The Water and Sewer Utilities Department is recruiting for one (1) Code Enforcement Technician. The incumbent in this classification will be assigned to the Water and Sewer Utilities Department’s Compliance Division and is responsible for performing administrative and field duties of routine to moderate complexity in the inspection, investigation, and resolution of violations of city codes and ordinances pertaining to potable water, recycled water, wastewater collection, sewer pre-treatment (Fats, Oils, Grease), stormwater pollution control, water waste and other related duties as assigned. An employee works under immediate supervision while learning job duties but is expected to work with a greater degree of independence over time.

The annual salary range for this position is $88,981.20 - $113,380.92. This position may be filled at or near the minimum of the salary range.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements:

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Three (3) years of increasingly responsible office and/or field experience that involves extensive public contact

Acceptable Substitution:

None.

License/Certifications:

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment.

Desirable Qualifications:

For positions in the Community Development Department:
Experience in building construction, inspection or investigation, or an Associate degree in building construction or a related field, is desirable.
Experience in planning, zoning, civil engineering or architecture is desirable.

For positions in the Water and Sewer Utilities Department:
Experience in potable water, recycled water and wastewater collection utilities is desirable.

For positions in the Department of Public Works:
Experience in planning, storm-water pollution control, hazardous material inspection, civil engineering, or architecture is desirable.

Other Requirements:

May be required to occasionally work evenings and weekends.

Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.

Candidates must attain a passing score on each phase of the examination process to qualify for the Eligible List. A department interview may be required prior to appointment.
