THE POSITION
The Maintenance Engineer I is the entry-level classification in the Maintenance Engineer series. This individual performs and/or assists in the performance of semi-skilled or skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodel and minor construction of County buildings, structures and equipment. This position is subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday, shift assignments and custodial facility assignments, and must respond to emergencies as needed. Performs related duties as assigned.
The Maintenance Engineer II is the full working level classification performing more difficult assignments with a greater degree of proficiency and requiring less supervision than the Level I. This individual performs and/or assists in the performance of semi-skilled or skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodel and minor construction of County buildings, structures and equipment. This position is subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday, shift assignments and custodial facility assignments, and must respond to emergencies as needed. Performs related duties as assigned.
This position is subject to a full background check by the District Attorney.

Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Craft/Maintenance/Institutional bargaining unit for labor and relations purposes.

Individuals who are in a full-time classification position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months, for a total of eighteen months.
