The Job

Land Use Services invites qualified applicants to apply for an excellent career opportunity in leadership as the Building and Safety Engineering Manager.* Building and Safety Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations, policies, and procedures within the Building and Safety- Plan Check Engineering Unit. This includes ensuring compliance with building codes, managing personnel, and coordinating plan checks and inspections. The Engineering Manager will also lead initiatives for continuous improvement and serve as a technical resource for staff and the public.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, candidate must undergo a background check, which includes fingerprinting and a medical exam.

Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

Physical: This position includes the following demands: frequent sitting, occasional walking, standing, bending, and squatting; fine manipulation in both hands; continuously reaching or working below the shoulder level; must frequently demonstrate near vision and occasionally demonstrate far vision; occasionally lift or carry ten (10) pounds or less; occasionally works near equipment and machinery on rough, uneven, rocky, or slippery surfaces; occasionally exposed to dust, gas, toxic materials, noise, and extremes in temperature and/or humidity; occasionally uses protective equipment or clothing.

Minimum Requirements

License: All qualified candidates must hold current status as a registered Professional Civil Engineer with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs. Qualified candidates must meet one of the following combinations of education & experience options:
OPTION 1
Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.* Experience Two (2) years of full-time equivalent supervisory experience overseeing and directing engineering and technical staff in the execution of responsibilities related to building safety, structural design, and/or construction management.
OPTION 2 Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Architecture or a closely related field * Experience Four (4) years of full-time equivalent supervisory experience overseeing and directing engineering and technical staff in the execution of responsibilities related to building safety, structural design, and/or construction management.
