DESCRIPTION

The Long Beach Utilities Department is currently hiring 5 candidates for the position of Community Program Specialist I-III in the Utilities Resources Division. These positions will include 2 permanent, full-time, unclassified positions and 3 part time, seasonal Non-Career positions and will work at the Water Campus located at 1800 E. Wardlow, Long Beach, CA 90802.

Non-career employees are considered temporary, at-will employees who are not typically eligible for benefits. However, non-career employees may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions. Non-Career employees are limited to 1,600 work hours per service year and are not guaranteed a minimum number of work hours.

The Community Program Specialist I-III position provides real-world water and gas conservation policy and grant-funded program implementation experience. Accomplishments of employees in this position include the design and implementation of a program reducing landscape irrigation, the development of water conservation programs for restaurants, and implementing multiple customer specific turf-replacement programs. In this role, the Community Program Specialist I-III will also assist in the implementation and management of LBUD gas and water conservation projects, services and grant-funded programs. Such programs include:


The Community Program Specialist I-III position will have opportunities to attend local and regional meetings to interact with other agencies and understand public policies to create and implement innovative programs.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERESTICS:
Grade Level I
Under close supervision, supports in the administration of projects, services and grant-funded programs.

Grade Level II
Under general supervision, develops and implements projects, services and grant-funded programs; requires a minimum of one (1) year full-time professional experience offering specific and substantial preparation for the duties of the position.

Grade Level III
Under general supervision, performs journey-level duties of projects, services and grant-funded programs. May train lower grade level staff; requires a minimum of two (2) years full-time professional experience offering specific and substantial preparation for the duties of the position.
