ABOUT THE POSITION

The Clark County Real Property Management Department is seeking qualified candidates for the Automotive and Equipment Technician I/II position. As part of our team, you will perform diagnostic, maintenance, and repair work on a variety of Clark County vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate will be skilled in independently servicing and maintaining gasoline and diesel engines, power transmission systems, steering mechanisms, and other automotive and heavy-duty vehicle components. Responsibilities also include adhering to safety protocols, delivering excellent customer service, and following both written and verbal instructions.

Automotive and Equipment Technician I: $24.07 - $37.36 Hourly
Automotive and Equipment Technician II: $26.05 - $40.33 Hourly

The Automotive and Equipment Technician I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Automotive and Equipment Technician II.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from high school AND three (3) years of full-time experience in automotive equipment services and repair work. Successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the automotive trade may be substituted for the three (3) years of required experience.

Automotive and Equipment Technician II - In addition to the above: Minimum of one (1) year of journey-level experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and/or heavy construction equipment. Additional experience as outlined above may be substituted for the apprenticeship program on a year for year basis. Attendance at a recognized trade school is desirable.

Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work with exposure to potentially hazardous fuels, oils and solvents.

Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment; specified positions may require a Class A license with endorsements required to road test and/or operate heavy duty vehicles and equipment.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical shop or related maintenance setting, including operating typical trade test equipment, hand and power tools and standard office equipment; stamina to stand, walk and climb and to work in confined or awkward spaces for an extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone.
