Position: Community Relations Facilitator Reports to: Superintendent Department: Elementary and Secondary Education Classification: 1.0 FTE, Professional Division: Division of Learning Services, Office of Special Education Location: Jefferson City Section: Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled (MSSD) Pay Range: SP14 Job Group Code: 103 Primary duty assists the superintendent and the MSSD administrative team in providing an effective community relations and engagement program. Essential Functions : Assists the superintendent and the MSSD administrative team in providing an effective community relations and engagement program. This is a 12-month professional position primarily responsible for development of positive and productive relationships with families, alumni, local community stakeholders, educators, local education agencies (LEAs), service organizations, other agencies serving people with disabilities, and the general public.
• Collects, approves, prepares, and disseminates newsletters, emails, articles, and other communications to inform staff, families, service organizations, LEAs, and other stakeholders of activities, programs, and accomplishments of MSSD, its staff, or students.
• Serves as media liaison and school spokesperson with the school superintendent.
• Builds and maintains the MSSD website with reports/events scheduled and submitted by the superintendent and/or the administrative team.
• Makes professional and engaging documents, flyers, and handouts for varied audiences.
• Approves all publications for MSSD schools, area offices, and central office before dissemination.
- Serves as the liaison with the DESE Communications office by providing assistance with the coordination, creation, quality control, and approvals for all school, area office, and central office publications, program communication, and social media campaigns.
• Presents and disseminates information about the MSSD program and schools at appropriate conferences.
• Coordinates with human resources to administer the volunteer program.
• Serves as liaison with companies/employers for postsecondary transition training opportunities. Works with MSSD educators and home-school coordinators to build relationships with area businesses and agencies that may provide postsecondary opportunities for students.
• Promotes and coordinates activities and events internally to promote a positive work environment.
• Promotes and coordinates activities and events externally to promote positive relationship with MSSD stakeholders.
• Ability to complete multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
• Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels as well as public speaking.
• Strong writing and presentation skills.
• Resourceful and well organized.
• Ability to lead and advocate in a team setting.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office as well as experience in web design (Drupal).
• Sensitivity to the needs of children and adults with disabling conditions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Travel :
• The official domicile for this position is Jefferson City, MO.
• This position is required to travel in-state or out-of-state. Mileage and other travel expenses will be reimbursed at the approved rate.
Minimum Qualifications:• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or a related field.
• Expert desktop publishing experience/website construction/graphic arts experience.
• Excellent written language and computer skills.
• This position requires some flexibility in work hours and involves some weekend activities.
OR • 4+ years experience in not-for-profit community relations, media relations, and/or event planning.
