Public Works is looking to fill multiple full-time positions in our Road Maintenance Series. The ideal candidate should be willing to work outside in various weather conditions and be willing to do a variety of tasks and jobs as assigned by Supervisors and Senior Road Maintenance Workers.

THE POSITION

ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER I

The Road Maintenance Worker I is the entry level class in the Road Maintenance Worker series, learning work methods and techniques. This class serves as the training level in which incumbents gain greater experience in operating construction equipment and demonstrating required competence for advancement to the journey level. Incumbents may be assigned to perform road and/or bridge maintenance, traffic device repair and installation, tree trimming and weed control, and other related duties involving manual labor such as shoveling, pothole patching, lifting and loading. This position is subject to overtime, standby and callback assignments.

ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER II

The Road Maintenance Worker II is the journey level class within the Road Maintenance Worker series. Employees within this class re-distinguished from the Road Maintenance Worker I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, including the ability to work independently exercising judgement and initiative and the ability to operate the full range of tools and equipment related to specific assignments. Incumbents may be assigned to perform road and/or bridge maintenance, traffic device repair and installation, tree trimming and weed control, and other related duties involving manual labor such as shoveling, pothole patching, lifting and loading. This position is subject to overtime, standby and callback assignments.

ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER III

The Road Maintenance Worker III is the advanced working level in the Road Maintenance Worker class series. The Level III is skilled in operating advanced level, specialized heavy equipment such as truck/trailer units, large front-end loaders, high rangers, backhoes, road graders, striper/pavement marker and chipper on an on-going, continual basis and must demonstrate a sophisticated expertise in the use of such equipment. This individual is instrumental in training departmental employees and may be assigned to the road, tree, traffic, or bridge crew. This position is subject to overtime, standby, and callback assignments. Performs related duties as assigned.

Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Crafts/Maintenance Institutional bargaining unit for labor relations purposes.

Individuals who are in a full-time classification position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months, for a total of eighteen months.

Part-time extra-help is a provisional classification where permanent status may not be obtained. This position is subject to overtime, standby, shift, and callback assignments and will perform related duties as assigned. This position is non-benefited except for participation in a 401a program with Nationwide.

Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday, and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).
