ABOUT THIS POSITION The South Coast AQMD is seeking a qualified candidate for our Fleet Services Worker II (Automobile Attendant) position in the Automotive Services Unit. From this recruitment process, we expect to establish an eligible list from which current and future vacancies may be filled, during the life of the list.
Under general supervision, participates in and lead the activities of the Automotive Services Section; assists in the day-to-day operation of the Automotive Services Section; prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports on the fleet; and does other work as required.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with vendors on vehicle repairs and maintenance, as well as preparing and maintaining a variety of records and reports. They should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively support staff and be highly motivated, self-directed, and positive, with a strong ability to develop creative and practical solutions to challenges.

- Assists in maintaining a record of mileage, expenses, and repairs on each vehicle in the fleet; reviews invoices against work orders to ensure charges reflect authorized parts, repairs, and services; assists in the preparation of a variety of reports in numerical, narrative, or graph form in cost expenditures for the fleet.
- Assists in preparing all vehicles for fleet entry or removal; maintains up-to-date files by entering or deleting respective data in computerized records; assists in obtaining license plates.
- May perform any duty customarily assigned to the Fleet Services Worker I, e.g., dispenses fuel to fleet and rideshare vehicles; participates in parking lot control, runs errands, picks up or delivers items using South Coast AQMD passenger vehicle or single-unit truck, as required.
- Supervises staff in absence of Fleet Services Supervisor; contacts vendors for vehicle repair or maintenance; authorizes routine maintenance and repairs to South Coast AQMD vehicles.
- Trains new employees on delivery or messenger routes, ensuring that they are familiar with routes and timetables for runs.
- Conducts and evaluates employee driving tests.
MINIMUM AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS In addition to the Minimum Qualifications , which follow, the most competitively qualified candidates will possess:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) to maintain accurate records and prepare clear and concise reports and documentation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE: - One year experience as a Fleet Services Worker I.
-OR- - Two years of experience servicing or repairing automobiles and light trucks.
LICENSE: Possession pf a valid California Class "C" Driver's License and a satisfactory current driver's record check issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
KNOWLEDGE OF: Safe operation of standard automotive vehicles; driving and traffic regulations; routine automotive service, maintenance, and repair procedures; routine office procedures.
ABILITY TO: Lead a group of Fleet Services Workers; safely operate automotive vehicles; review and verify invoice statements and work orders; maintain records and files; perform routine maintenance work; lift 25 pounds or more; deal tactfully and effectively with others.
DRIVING RECORD: Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment will be required to submit a driving record, in the form of a K-4 report from the DMV, at the candidate's cost. Further details on how to obtain this report will be provided at that time.

THE SELECTION PROCESS Application packets, including responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire, will first be screened, and the most competitively qualified candidates will be invited to a multiple-choice examination, to be rated on a pass/fail basis. Candidates who pass the exam will advance to the next step in the process, which may include a panel interview. (Please note that all assessments will be conducted remotely).
Following the assessment process, a ranked eligible list is expected to be created, from which current and future vacancies may be filled, during the 6-12-month life of the list. Only those who demonstrate they are among the most competitively qualified, at each successive step of the selection process, will be advanced to the next step.
